"City of Angels" is a love letter to Los Angeles (which, not surprisingly, means "City of Angels" in Spanish). Although I don't live in L.A. or grew up there (I lived a half hour away from L.A. when I was a kid), I still consider it to be my hometown on a spiritual level. Every part of it, from Little Tokyo to the east side, holds many happy & bittersweet memories for me. Looking closer at the lyrics, one can see a bit of a transition of regret to understanding, the desire to be comfortable in one's own skin, the sobering act in letting of of the past & the importance of forming new memories in the present. It's taken me many years to learn some of these lessons, but luckily for me, it's never too late to start over.
